SABC snubs Proteas tour to UK - again

Cape Town - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced that it will not provide full coverage of the Proteas' tour to England.

SABC will not broadcast all of the Proteas' England outbound tour and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy starting on Wednesday, May 24 and the start of the ICC event on June 1.

According to the broadcasters website, despite numerous attempts, the SABC was unable to secure the rights.

The Proteas' tour to England consists of three ODIs, three T20Is and four Test matches.

The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in England and Wales between June 1-17, 2017.

The website added: In order to serve its audience of ardent cricket fans, SABC Sport and Radio 2000 will make sure that all South Africans will be able to follow the progress of the team in England and the ICC Champions Trophy through live hourly updates of the performance of the team during the tour and the tournament.

South African viewers will however be able to watch the action in the upcoming tour on SuperSport on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform.

Earlier this year, Proteas fans were unable to watch Russell Domingo's charges record a 1-0 Test series and 3-2 one-day series victory tour against New Zealand after the national broadcaster deemed it 'too expensive'.

The first ODI between England and South Africa gets underway on Wednesday in Leeds at 15:00 (SA time).
