Steyn talks recovery, eyes bowling return

Cape Town - Proteas speedster Dale Steyn is on the mend following shoulder surgery and he could be back in the nets by the end of January.

Steyn was sent home after the first Test against Australia in Perth last month with a shoulder injury and it was later revealed that he would require surgery.

It prompted many to believe that it could be the end of the road for the 33-year-old, but Steyn is determined to represent his country again and he has identified next year's tour of England (a four-Test series starts in July) as a possible return date.

Speaking to EWN at a promotional event just outside Cape Town on Thursday, Steyn spoke about his recovery.

"It's going okay so far. I'm seeing the physio two or three times a week ... to get some movement and some blood flow through there," Steyn said.

"I guess I'll take December to recover and probably most of January too. By the end of January or maybe early February I'll probably start to lightly bowl.

"Right now it's in the recovery phase and there's not much I can do."

Steyn, with 417 Test wickets to his name, needs just five more scalps to overtake Shaun Pollock (421) as South Africa's all-time leading wicket-take in the format.
