Cobras win as Parnell skittles Dolphins

Cape Town - A maiden career 10-wicket haul by Wayne Parnell took the Cape Cobras to a nine-wicket victory over the Dolphins on the third afternoon of their Sunfoil Series clash in Cape Town on Saturday.

The Proteas all-rounder followed up his best ever figures of 7/51 in the first innings with 5/54 in the second to put the visitors all out for just 139.

That gave the home side a victory target of 71 and they raced home in 16.5 overs to give the Cobras their third win of the season.

The Dolphins had fought back with the ball on a rain curtailed day two to give themselves hope, but they were woeful with the bat on day three and folded in only 45.4 overs.

Franchise debutant Senuran Muthusamy top-scored for the KwaZulu-Natal side, but his 34 was far too little to threaten the hosts, who had Parnell to thank once more as he bowled with pace and precision for most of his 14 overs.

His 12 wickets in the match came at a cost of 105 and improved on his previous best match figures quite comfortably.

Brendan Young (2/15) and Dane Piedt (2/37) provided good support to their team-mate.

Andrew Puttick (33) and Stiaan van Zyl (37) then shared an unbroken 64-run stand to take their side to a victory that lifted them above the Dolphins into fourth place on the table.
