Cape Town - Rudi Second hit an unbeaten double century for the Knights as they ended the second day of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Cape Cobras with the advantage at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday.
The right-hander made a sparkling 203 (231 balls, 30 fours) to help the visitors reach 489 for five declared, before three wickets by Ottniel Baartman (3/60) left the hosts battling to 281 for five by the close – still trailing by 208.
Second was not out on 119 when the Knights resumed on 376 for four overnight and he extended his fifth-wicket stand to 156 with Werner Coetsee, who made 62 (101 balls, 10 fours).
The in-form wicketkeeper now has 387 runs in three innings with two not outs this season, a remarkable average of 387.00.
After the declaration, Baartman struck twice and Coetsee (1/56) once in the first 23 overs to leave the Cobras on 93 for three.
But Justin Ontong (64 off 92 balls, 9 fours) and Aviwe Mgijima (63 off 92 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) put on 109 for the fourth wicket to bring their side back in the game.
However, both fell in quick succession to peg them back, with Kyle Verreynne (42) and Simon Khomari (29) then sharing an unbroken 72-run sixth-wicket stand to hold up the Knights at the halfway stage of the game.
