Van der Dussen bats Lions to safety

Cape Town - Rassie van der Dussen was involved in two key partnerships as the Highveld Lions survived possible final day nerves to draw their Sunfoil Series clash against the Titans in their rain-hit match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

The right-hander hit an unbeaten 76 (175 balls, 11 fours) as the hosts reached 187/2 in their second innings.

This after the visitors added a whopping 104 runs in only 12.3 overs in the morning, with Henry Davids recording his highest-ever franchise cricket score of 150 (261 balls, 13 fours, 3 sixes) not out. The Titans captain was unbeaten on 101 at the start of the day and added 49 in 43 balls, while  David Wiese a run-a-ball 71 ( balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes) as the pair took their partnership for the seventh wicket to 147.

It also gave the defending champions a healthy lead of 225, but any hopes of pressing for victory depended on early wickets.

However, that never came as Van der Dussen put on 109 for the first wicket with Reeza Hendricks (49) and then added 74 with Nicky van den Bergh (41 not out) for the third to take the Lions to safety.

The draw was enough for the Titans to consolidate their position at the summit of the table after they walked away with 7.82 points. The home side ended with 4.12 points, but are part of a five-team group at the summit, all on two wins apiece at the mid-point of the competition.

No play had been possible on day three due to rain.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
