WP coach to stand-in for Prince at Cobras

Cape Town - Faiek Davids, coach of Western Province, will be the stand-in assistant coach of the Cape Cobras for the final Sunfoil Series match of the first half of the season as well as the T20 Challenge.

This is due to the temporary absence of Ashwell Prince, whose TV commitments with SuperSport were finalised with the broadcaster before he signed to become part of the support cast for the head coach, Paul Adams.

Prince, a superb batsman for South Africa who blasted 11 centuries in 66 Tests, remains an important cog in the Cape Cobras-wheel.

He will slot straight in as assistant coach after his return from the Australian tour.

Currently, he is a TV-analyst for the current series between South Africa and Australia.

“Ashwell signed for SuperSport and we were aware of that scenario prior to him taking over as assistant coach," said Nabeal Dien, chief executive officer of the Cape Cobras.

"We are really thrilled about Ashwell’s unwavering commitment to the Cobras’ cause and his determination to take the Cape champions to the next level.

“We are privileged to have a cricket coach and persona of the quality of Faiek on board. Kudos to him for the way in which Western Province, while on his watch, romped to three successive emphatic wins in the Sunfoil three-day Cup this season,” Dien remarked.

“Our die-hard fans could rest assured that Ashwell will return with an incentive to help rejuvenate the Cape Cobras,” Dien said.

The Cape Cobras will start their T20 Challenge on Saturday, November 12 at the Wanderers Stadium against the Knights.
