Bjerregaard triumphs as Coetzee fades

Vilamoura -  Lucas Bjerregaard fired a final-round 65 to ease to a four-shot victory at the Portugal Masters and win his first individual European Tour title on Sunday.

The 26-year-old Dane, who won the inaugural GolfSixes event in May with compatriot Thorbjorn Olesen, started the last day with a one-stroke advantage and never looked like letting it slip as he finished the tournament on 20 under par.

The only player who put pressure on the 387th-ranked Bjerregaard was George Coetzee, but the South African ran out of steam on the back nine before posting a triple bogey on the 18th hole.

That allowed Marc Warren to finish second alone on 16-under overall.

"Today is up there with one of my best rounds," Bjerregaard said after his win. "Not so much the 6 under around here, I've done that before, but under the pressure... the two shots I hit on 17 are some of the best I've hit in a long time. I felt like it was my time to go out and grab it (victory) and not wait for someone to hand it to me."
