Massive pay day for SA's Schwartzel

Cape Town - South African golfer Charl Schwartzel finished strongly at the past weekend's Tour Championship to take home more than R5 million.

Schwartzel was the only South African participating in the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 2011 Masters winner finished in a tie for 10th on Sunday, 10 shots behind winner Rory McIlroy who beat American duo Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell in a playoff.

Schwartzel was rewarded with $218 620 (R3m) for his finish and bagged another $200 000 (R2.7m) for ending 25th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Schwartzel's total earnings added up to R5.7m.

In the third round on Saturday, Schwartzel made back-to-back eagles (watch below) on the 6th and 7th holes.

However, five bogeys in the final round saw Schwartzel end with 71 to finish on 278, two-under par.
