Cape Town - After his breakthrough win at the BMW South African Open Championship earlier this year, young South African golfer Brandon Stone is determined to build on his successful start to 2016, and sees 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel as the man he’d love to emulate.
Stone and Schwartzel, both playing in this week’s Sunshine and European Tour co-sanctioned Tshwane Open at Pretoria Country Club, appear on The Dan Nicholl Show on SuperSport 1 on Wednesday at 19:00, and Stone is full of confidence.
“I’m not quite at the level Charl’s at,” Stone concedes.
“But other than the four Majors, you want to win your national championship, and to have done that at 22 makes me think that maybe in a few months, a few years, I can be chasing Charl in America, and get my own green jacket. We can hopefully have a cool selfie with two green jackets one day!”
Schwartzel, who admits on the show to his love of playing in South Africa, is making his 2016 debut after an injury break, but says that the time off “was the longest and best break I’ve had since I’ve turned professional”. Schwartzel leaves for Los Angeles on Sunday night for a series of PGA Tour events leading up to The Masters, and he recalls his victory at Augusta with great fondness.
The two golfers are joined on this week’s show by Metro FM drive time host TBo Touch, who chats about watching basketball in New York with Floyd Mayweather, growing up with Grace Jones, and his new wine that debuts this weekend at the Cape Wine Auction.
This week’s third guest is 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok Butch James, who looks back at that famous night in Paris, looks ahead to the imminent birth of his second son, and does his best to get a job caddying for Schwartzel or Stone.
