Cape Town - Sport24 received an avalanche of responses to our 5 of the biggest shocks in sport history article - proving that it just goes to show you cannot bet on the best - or strongest - team winning a match or tournament.
Regardless of the circumstances, any player or team can have an off day and if it happens to fall in a final or on all-important match day, well, many of us know how it feels when our favourite team losses (hint: Springboks, Proteas, Bafana Bafana)...
However at the end of the day, there always has to be a winner and unfortunately, a loser, but that’s just what makes sport entertaining and exciting.
So keeping that in mind, we have compiled a list of some of your suggestions to add onto our biggest sporting shocks in sport history:
Andrew Ball and Jack Pienaar both suggested Leicester City’s unbelievable English Premier League victory at odds of 5 000/1.
Hendrik remembers the 2013 America's Cup held at San Francisco Bay, where Oracle Team USA came from behind to win eight races in a row to beat Emirates Team NZ 9-8.
Johnny Tyrannis believes one of the biggest upsets was Greece, a complete outsider, who went onto win Euro 2004 against Portugal 1-0.
Formula One fan Eric van der Merwe says the biggest shock was when British driver Jenson Button won the 2009 Formula One World Championship with the Brawn GP team.
Roger Gates reminisced over Denmark’s 2-0 win Germany at Euro 1992.
Martine van der Merwe recollects three sporting shocks: Maria Sharapova (an unseeded 17-year-old girl) beating Serena Williams at Wimbledon to win the title in 2004, South Africa winning Olympic gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2004 Athens Olympics and when Ireland stunned England in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
Tinyiko Mashaba takes us back to 1994 when Russian boxer Orzubek Nazarov defeated South African Dingaan Thobela in a controversial clash, after Thobela came back from defeating Tony 'The Tiger' Lopez.
