Cape Town - Former national coach Jake White believes the Springboks can win the Rugby World Cup again.
White coached the Springboks to World Cup glory in 2007, with Friday (October 20, 2017) marking the 10-year anniversary of South Africa’s 15-6 win over England in the final in Paris.
The Springboks are currently ranked fifth on the official World Rugby rankings and have won only nine of 21 Tests under current coach Allister Coetzee.
But White, who currently coaches the Toyota Verblitz club in Japan, believes the Boks can return to the top of the pile in future.
“I think they can,” he told All Out Rugby. “The right coach could win another World Cup, if they left him alone. If he believed it, stuck to his plan, and was prepared to fight for it - and I mean really fight for it, and not negotiate on the things that are really needed - then it could be done.”
White however warned that the task at hand would not be easy.
“It would come at a cost that he would have to be prepared to pay. You can’t do the things needed to win and be popular at the same time.”
