Bulls stay mum on Hendricks deal

Cape Town - The Bulls have remained mum on whether they will offer former Springbok wing Cornal Hendricks a contract.

Hendricks, who was diagnosed with a heart ailment last year, joined the Pretoria-based franchise for a medical and fitness testing last week.

Hendricks is keen to return to the playing field - pending medical clearance - and the Blue Bulls Company's high performance manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg, said last week they would be happy to see the wing continue his career as a Bulls player.

Hendricks spent time at the Bulls this week, but the union is yet to officially offer the player a contract.

Janse van Rensburg told Netwerk24 on Thursday that they are hoping to have things finalised next week in order for Hendricks to possibly continue his career.

In December last year, Hendricks headed for French club Toulon, but the club did not offer him a contract after undergoing medical tests.

The 28-year-old had been ruled out of rugby at the beginning of last season with a heart condition soon after signing with the Stormers in Super Rugby.

He didn't play a game for the Cape Town-based franchise, and when a routine SA Rugby test revealed his condition, he was forced into early retirement.

Hendricks also played Super Rugby for the Cheetahs and was previously a stand-out for South Africa's sevens team, winning Commonwealth gold in Glasgow in 2014.

He played 12 Tests for the Springboks between 2014 and 2015.
