Cheetahs happy after big win in Japan

Cape Town - The Cheetahs feel their win over Toyota Verblitz in Japan was good preparation for the upcoming Currie Cup Premier Division.

The men from Bloemfontein won the friendly encounter 62-13 at the Toyota Stadium in Toyota City on Saturday.

It was an historical match for the two teams, who both share the same sponsor.

The Cheetahs ran in nine tries after leading 29-6 at the break.

“It was important that we produce a professional performance, which I think we did,” coach Franco Smith told Netwerk24.

“I think we gave a nice step in the right direction and I’m very happy that we played the match. We’ll take things forward from here.”

The Cheetahs start their Currie Cup Premier Division campaign against Boland in Wellington on Friday, August 5 (15:00).
