Douglas: My best years are ahead of me

Cape Town - Reds lock Kane Douglas believes his best years are still ahead of him after being named in Wallabies coach Michael Cheika's 38-man training squad.

Douglas used to be a certainty for inclusion in the Wallabies' starting lineup having started six of the their seven 2015 World Cup matches.

But it has been quite the fall from grace for the 28-year-old as he has not only fallen out of favour at national level but also at club level.

Reds coach Nick Stiles opted for Izack Rodda and Lukhan Tui in the second-row in Super Rugby this past season. However, Wallabies coach Cheika has shown his faith in Douglas and the second-rower is desperate to prove his credentials.

"I’ve been trying to do everything I can to get back into the Reds team to get back in the Wallabies team," Douglas told AAP.

"I still think I’ve got a few good years left in me and I can still play my best footy, hopefully that’s still in front of me.

"I’m loving being back involved (with the Wallabies) and I’m just trying to do what I can and improve on a few things this week.

"Hopefully when the squad gets culled down a bit I might be left standing, but I’ve just got to do my best while I’m here, it’s all I can do."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
