Former Bok Januarie banned until October

Paris - Former South Africa international Ricky Januarie has been suspended for four weeks for a dangerous tackle, the French Rugby League said on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old La Rochelle scrumhalf was yellow carded for the tackle on Lyon's Tongan centre Hemani Paea during a 43-18 win on September 10.

Januarie will become available again on October 21, meaning he will miss La Rochelle's European Challenge Cup clash with Bayonne the day before, as well as their opening match in the competition a week earlier away to Italians Treviso.

The former Cats, Lions and Stormers halfback has played 47 times for his country, scoring five tries.

He moved to France in 2011 to join Lyon before switching to La Rochelle in 2015.
