Bafana crash and burn in latest FIFA rankings

Cape Town - Shocking back-to-back 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifying defeats to Cape Verde has seen South Africa drop to 80th place in the latest FIFA world rankings.

After coming up short against the nation off the northwest coast of Africa, Bafana Bafana now only have a slim chance of seeing their name in the December 1 draw for next year's finals to be hosted in Russia.

The ranking is South Africa's lowest since 2013 when Gordon Igesund was still mentoring the national team.

Meanwhile, Germany managed to jump ahead of Brazil to claim top spot with Portugal, Argentina and Belgium completing the top five, respectively.

In the CAF region, Stuart Baxter's charges have fallen to 18th place, while Cape Verde jumped to 14th.

Egypt maintained their spot as Africa's top ranked country with Tunisia moving to second place.

African giants Nigeria have dropped to fifth place.
