Nainggolan believes Roma deserved to beat Chelsea

Cape Town - AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan believes his side should have walked away with three points from their UEFA Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Giallorossi came away from Stamford Bridge with a point after a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Blues. Chelsea took the lead early through David Luiz and were 2-0 ahead when Eden Hazard scored in the 37th minute. However, Aleksandar Kolarov made it 2-1 before Edin Dzeko netted a brace for a 3-2 lead.

Nainggolan felt the visitors deserved to come away with a narrow victory, but Hazard scored his second goal in the 75th minute to level matters at 3-3 and ensure the spoils were shared.

"I think we had a great performance and it was so strange to concede the equaliser for 3-3, as we felt that we were the better side," Nainggolan told Mediaset Premium.

"We should've hung on to the lead a bit longer. It's a good point, nonetheless.

"We've conceded a few too many unfortunate goals lately. We gave the ball away too easily, we can certainly do better in some things, but we created a lot and I thought we played much better than Chelsea.

"We lost against Napoli, even if we could've equalised, so we tried to build on that second-half performance and attacked Chelsea from the start. I think we gave it our all and deserved the victory."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
