Pochettino saluted his side's 'massive victory' as Tottenham Hotspur stormed
past Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in their Champions League opener on
Wednesday.
Sensational strikes from Heung-Min Son (4') and Harry Kane (15', 60') cancelled out Andriy Yarmolenko's excellent 11th minute curler.
It was a first win at Wembley Stadium for Spurs, and Pochettino was delighted with the result and the performance.
The Argentine manager was able to field new right-back Serge Aurier alongside Davinson Sanchez who made his second appearance for the club in the heart of the defence, with Fernando Llorente making a late appearance from the bench.
The Argentine manager told the club's official website: "It means more than three points, to build our confidence, trust and to feel at home at Wembley is so important.
"It’s a massive victory and to start well in the Champions League is so important for us.”
Dortmund were by no means an easy opponent, and threatened throughout the tie, with Pochettino explaining: "It’s true sometimes when you cannot dominate, you must show different strengths. We fought really well and we were so strong.
"The players made a massive effort against a very good team. Dortmund are a great team and they played really well. I’m so happy with the performance."
He added: "You also need some luck to score and win the game, maybe they dominated more in the first half, it was so open, but we were clinical and in the second half we were in control and didn’t concede too many chances.”
And on Aurier’s debut, he concluded: "He was fantastic. I’m very happy with his performance, he showed real quality.”
