Berahino ready to make Stoke start

Cape Town - Saido Berahino says he is in "good condition" and ready to make his first start following his switch to Stoke City.

The 23-year-old joined the Potter in the January transfer window, having eyed a move away from West Bromwich Albion for some time.

He hardly featured for the Baggies this season after finding himself sidelined for being out of shape and as a result of a reported failed drugs test in September that saw him serve a 'secret' Football Association ban.

But having worked hard to get back into shape, Berahino is eyeing his first start in the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, having made two substitute appearances so far.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "I have been doing a lot of work with the group but also a lot, every day, away from them too, to make sure I am getting my levels right back up to where we want them to be.

"The extra work has finished now because I am in good condition, and now it is just about maintaining what I have and improving on that with minutes in the Premier League.

"I have already been used in a couple of games, which has been fantastic for me, but the next step is to try and start a game and then come through that too, hopefully having made a good impact."

Stoke next face a challenging trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday where they face Tottenham Hotspur who boast one of the best defences in the English Premiership.

Kick off is at 15:30.
