Cape Town - Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy believes that his Premier League rivals are spending too much in the transfer market, and explained why Spurs have been keeping quiet.
Spurs have yet to spend this transfer window, but their sale of full-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a reported £50 million shows the kind of money that their rivals are willing to spend.
"Some of the activity that is going on at the moment is just impossible for it to be sustainable," Levy said, via FourFourTwo.
"Somebody spending £200 million more than they're earning, eventually it catches up with you. And you can't keep doing it."
Saying that "we have a duty to manage the club appropriately", Levy also insisted that Spurs have not been priced out of the race for any player they really want.
"We have to find the right balance but I can honestly say it is not impacting us on transfer activity because we are not yet in a place where we have found a player that we want to buy who we cannot afford to buy."
Meanwhile goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has conceded he is frustrated by their lack of progress in Europe but says the club will be better prepared for the Champions League this year after going out in the group stage last season.
