Gabriel and Otamendi 'all good' after altercation

Cape Town - Nicolas Otamendi says that "it's all good" with Gabriel Jesus after leaving his Manchester City team-mate with a broken eye socket.

The two City players faced off with their national teams when Argentina and Brazil met for an international friendly in June, and the young striker was stretchered off after getting a very close view of the defender’s elbow.

"We're all good as team-mates," Otamendi said. "We're used to being able to compete tough on the field and obviously it didn't work out for him. But it's good."

Gabriel has recovered in time to link up with his team-mates for preseason in the United States, where he started alongside Sergio Aguero as City beat Real Madrid 4-1 in the International Champions Cup.

Otamendi played in a three-man defence against Madrid, alongside John Stones and Vincent Kompany, and both he and Stones found the net in the second half in Los Angeles.

City have signed three full-backs this transfer window (Kyle Walker, Danilo, and Benjamin Mendy) and Pep Guardiola could still add another centre-back before the window closes.

"It's always positive when there's this much competition," Otamendi added. "It doesn't allow for any of the players to relax, you always have to give 100%.

"It makes it complicated to choose the starting XI but that's why we need to have a strong preseason.

"This season, obviously we've got good quality players and that's always a great thing to have. The ultimate goal is to get titles. Unfortunately we weren't able to do that last season so that's a big goal for us."
