Gunners looking to end Sanchez exit speculation

Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sought to end speculation regarding striker Alexis Sanchez' future at the club by pointing out he still has 12 months left on his contract.

The north London outfit suffered a disappointing Premier League campaign, finishing outside of the top four for the first time in 21 years.

This has led to incessant rumours they will struggle to hang on to their best players during the off-season.

While Wenger admitted the club will have their hands full during the transfer window, he remains confident the likes of Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will not be going anywhere.

"We have nobody at the end of their contract so that will be completely our decision," he told the club's official website.

"Therefore, I just believe that we, the club, have a big job to do during the summer because you want to keep players like Alexis and end all the speculation that could happen."

Wenger's own future is the subject of much discussion, with his contract set to expire in a couple of weeks with no news regarding a new deal as of yet. However, an announcement is expected to be made after the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Some feel he hinted at his intention to leave the club by stating he would give his all until the last day of his current contract with Arsenal, but he insists he just meant that he would remain professional as long as he was employed by the Gunners.

"I just explained to you what a professional person is. If you have surgery tomorrow with a surgeon who is having his last day of work, you still want him to do good work with you and not expect him to do half a job only because it's his last day. That's what it means to be professional, to perform as long as you have a contract."
