Hodgson coy on Palace role

Cape Town - Roy Hodgson says while he is not actively looking for a new management job right now, he would not turn down a good opportunity if it was presented to him.

Crystal Palace were stunned on Tuesday when Sam Allardyce announced his decision to resign as manager after spectacularly helping them avoid relegation.

Allardyce also appeared to retire from football in general by stating he was looking to focus on other areas of his life.

The rumour mill went into a tailspin when the odds on Hodgson being announced as his replacement were dramatically cut on Wednesday by bookmakers, but the man himself was unwilling to shed any light on the matter.

"I am not after a job but at the same time, I am not looking to turn down jobs," the former England boss told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I am in a happy situation that if one day someone comes to me and says 'we would like you to take on this job' and I like the idea of it, then I would be more than happy to do it."

The 69-year-old is a vastly experienced campaigner having spent time in charge of the likes of Blackburn, Liverpool, West Brom, Fulham, as well as the Three Lions, but Palace are likely to face competition from Sunderland for his signature.
