Iheanacho: I still have a lot to learn

Cape Town - Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho insists he is not taking his place at Manchester City for granted even though he has had an impressive start to the season.

The 19-year-old has scored three goals in seven appearances so far this season for the Citizens, including the winner in the Manchester derby against United, and has received high praise from manager, Pep Guardiola.

However, Iheanacho is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and admits he still has a lot to learn.

Iheanacho told BBC Sport: "I'm not letting all the praise get to my head because I still have a lot to learn in this game.

"It's been a very progressive period for me at the club, but playing alongside stars like Sergio [Aguero], Yaya [Toure] and other great players provides a big chance to keep working hard.

"I'm definitely learning, quietly listening and watching others closely every day - I know in doing that I will achieve bigger things in my career."

Iheanacho has been rewarded for his performances when he signed a new deal with Manchester City, but knows he will still play second fiddle in the City attack behind Aguero.

The Argentine striker Aguero returned from suspension to start ahead of Iheanacho in City's league victory over Swansea on Saturday but the Nigerian is willing to bide his time.

Iheanacho continued: "We have experienced players in the team and as someone who is learning and improving, I am happy to take my chance when the manager calls,"

"Our manager has confidence in me and has been encouraging me. All I want to do right now is to keep learning under him and work hard for the club."
