Moyes refuses to throw in the towel

Cape Town - A defiant Sunderland manager David Moyes has refused to throw in the towel after the 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough in Wednesday's English Premier League clash.

The Black Cats are currently in 20th place, 12 points from safety in Moyes' first season at the club, following the defeat on Wednesday evening at the Riverside.

And with five games remaining, it's likely that the North East side won't be playing top-flight football next season after numerous years of flirting with relegation.

While there is still a slight mathematical chance for Sunderland to avoid the drop, Moyes has refused to throw in the towel.

"I'm a football supporter, I know what it's like. You don't like seeing your team lose," the Scot was quoted by ITV

"While there's a chance, I've got to keep going and we've all got to keep going.

"We're not enjoying it, we are not enjoying losing or the position we're in."

Sunderland welcome Bournemouth to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, in a must-win fixture to have any chance of retaining their Premier League status.

Kick-off is at 16:00.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
