Ranieri rates Martial as his best-ever signing

Cape Town - Former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri believes his best piece of business in the transfer market was when he signed Anthony Martial for Monaco.

The Italian tactician has an impressive history of making shrewd moves in the transfer market. One of his best decisions was when he brought N'Golo Kante to Leicester where the defensive midfielder helped them win the Premier League against all odds in 2016.

Ranieri was also the man who brought former Premier League star Frank Lampard to Chelsea back in 2001, but he believes it's the signing of Martial that was his most significant.

At the age of 17, Martial was bought from Olympique Lyonnais in 2013, joining Ranieri's Monaco side in a €5m deal. Only two years later the Frenchman was sold for €60m to Manchester United.

Ranieri said, according to the Daily Star: “I think the best was Martial for Monaco. We buy him for €5m and sell for €60m.”

The Italian remains out of a job since his sacking at Leicester, and told Sky Sports News HQ: "I'm very stimulated to make another great season."

"I feel as well a European coach. Italy, Spain, France, England for me is okay."
