Rashford agrees bumper new contract

Cape Town - According to reports, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is set to sign a lucrative new long-term contract with the club following his breakout season.

Rashford, who is still just 18 years old, was thrown into the deep end at United this season after Wayne Rooney struggled to find his form up front and was shifted to a midfield role, leaving them light on attacking options.

The teenager grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring five goals in 11 Premier League appearances, leading him to be a serious contender to make Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad for the European Championships in France next month.

The striker continued his impressive form by scoring just three minutes into England's 2-1 win over Australia to break Tommy Lawton's 78-year record and become the youngest debutante goalscorer in England's history.

With just 12 months remaining on his existing deal, the Red Devils were keen to secure the services of their young superstar to ward off any potential suitors in the post-season transfer window.

The Telegraph reports his salary will increase to £20,000 a week with built in appearance and performances clauses that could see him earning significantly more if he continues to play well.

It has been a week of good news for the United faithful after Jose Mourinho was confirmed to replace Louis van Gaal as manager on Friday and rumours strongly suggesting talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be heading to Old Trafford.
