Rodwell defiant Sunderland will keep fighting

London - Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell insists his teammates will continue to fight for Premier League survival despite a difficult January.

The previous January transfer window was positive for the Black Cats as they added Wahbi Khazri, Jan Kirchhoff, Lamine Kone, and Dame N’Doye to their squad.

However, this time around the club do not have the money to invest, while Didier Ndong, Khazri and Kone may be unavailable until the middle of February due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rodwell told the Sunderland Echo: “Last year’s January window was good for us. If anything this one we have lost players because of the Africa Cup of Nations. You can’t dwell on that.

"We have to go out and play as the 11 he puts out. We have to fight in adversity.

“Whatever happens in the window is out of our hands, we have to keep going and if it doesn’t go our way we have to fight more.”

The Black Cats who lie second from bottom in the standings next travel to The Hawthorns where they will face a high-flying West Bromwhich Albion side who are currently sit in 8th position.

Kick off is at 17:00.
