Sissoko snubs Everton to join Spurs

Cape Town - Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko revealed that he had signed for Tottenham Hotspur by posting a picture of him holding Spurs shirt to his Twitter page late on Wednesday night.

Sissoko was at the heart of an intense deadline day battle between Everton and Tottenham that went right down to the wire.

The Toffees initially thought they had their man after agreeing a fee with Newcastle before Spurs came in at the 11th hour and matched their bid, believed to be £30m, leaving the player to decide his destination.

Ultimately, the lure of Champions League football proved too much for the France international to look beyond and he chose White Hart Lane.

Everton have struggled on deadline day, failing in their pursuits of Napoli's Manolo Gabbiadini, Porto's Yacine Brahimi, as well as Sissoko, while the loan of striker Enner Valencia is their only success on the day so far.

Sissoko was not expected to remain a Newcastle player beyond the current transfer window after being very vocal in his desire to leave St James Park following the club's relegation to the Championship.

His contract with Tottenham will run until June 2021. Along with a picture of him holding a Spurs shirt, he posted to Twitter, "Very happy to join Spurs for the next five years."
