Cape Town - Tottenham
are close to signing Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez in a deal that
could be worth up to £40 million, according to reports.
The Colombian centre-back was Ajax's player of the year last season and has been targeted by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Sanchez has two caps for Colombia.
He made 43 appearances for Ajax last season, scoring six goals after joining from Atletico Nacional.
The deal is reportedly for £28 million initially, with up to £12 million more in add-ons.
Ajax have said they did not want to sell Sanchez but are now prepared to let him go after the player reportedly told the club he wanted to leave, despite being offered an improved contract.
The 21-year-old missed the first game of the season at the weekend, as the club said he was ‘not in the right state of mind’. He also missed Ajax’s Europa League playoff game against Rosenborg on Thursday.
Sanchez would become Tottenham’s first signing of the summer.
Spurs will look to renew their cross-town rivalry with fellow Londoners, Chelsea when they welcome Antonio Conte's men to Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Kick off is at 17:00.
