FIFA opens disciplinary proceedings over Coleman leg-break

Cape Town - FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Neil Taylor over his tackle on Seamus Coleman during a World Cup Qualifier between Wales and Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland international fractured the tibia and fibula in his right leg following a poor challenge from Neil Taylor in the goalless draw with Wales.

Taylor went into the home team's dressing room after the Group D clash in Dublin to apologise for his tackle, and Coleman underwent surgery later that same day.

Taylor could face a lengthy ban for his challenge in a heated fixture with Coleman set to spend up to a year on the sidelines.

FIFA will pay Everton defender Seamus Coleman's wages during his recovery - believed to be around £45 000 a week.

Clubs are allowed to claim up to £112 731 of a player's weekly wages if the injury is suffered on international duty, as per FIFA's Club Protection Programme.

Meanwhile Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes Seamus Coleman's professional attitude will help him immensely during his recovery from injury.

Despite the devastating injury, Koeman is confident that Coleman will make a speedy recovery, especially with his excellent attitude.

"It's a big, big blow for the player and a big, big blow for the club," Koeman told the club's official website.

"It takes time for everybody to come to terms with something like this and, of course, that is felt most deeply by Seamus himself.

"In all my years in football, Seamus is one of the best professionals I've ever worked with at any club.

"His dedication to the game, his attitude and motivation are always where they should be and that's 100 percent, and he's like that in training every day as well as in games.

"That mentality will really be helpful to him now in not only coming to terms with what has happened but in setting out on the road to recovery and, over time, in him building himself once more to the level he has maintained over many years here at Everton. That strength of character will be a big, big thing."
