Klopp unveils plans for EFL Cup

Cape Town - Liverpool reached the quarters of the EFL Cup and manager Jurgen Klopp has unfinished business in the competition.

Klopp took the Reds to the EFL Cup final last year, his first season at Anfield, but they lost to Manchester City on penalties.

“There was unfinished business before we started the tournament again,” Klopp said after their win over Tottenham Hotspur to move into the quarter-finals.

“It’s not only unfinished business because we lost in the final; you can’t say that just because you were in the final last year then it’s your logical role to be the next winner," he said. "We have to do a lot for it."

Liverpool beat Burton Albion and Derby County in the Cup ahead of their fourth-round victory over Tottenham.

However, with Liverpool third in the Premier League on the same points as table-topping Manchester City, Klopp has to manage his squad's playing time well.

“We have different jobs to do," he said. "We need to be ready for the next Premier League game."

“And we need to keep one eye on the situation of the players [with injuries]," the German said. "So we need to stay awake, we need to stay on track and then a lot of things could be possible for us."

“Now it’s the quarter-final. We don’t dream, but we’ll be ready again in November,” he said.

Liverpool face Crystal Palace in a Premier League fixture on Saturday.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
