Johannesburg - Platinum Stars secured a narrow 1-0 win over SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday but missed out on a top-eight finish in the Premiership.
In a tight game with little to separate the sides, Stars pounced shortly after half time before holding on determinedly against a SuperSport side who had much less to play for on the day.
The home team had the early chances, but Morgan Gould sent a fifth minute header over goal before Bradley Grobler directed a 10th minute shot was fired straight at Stars keeper Steven Hoffman.
Stars came into the game around the 15 minute mark as Benson Shilongo sent a shot wide before he was denied by Ronwen Williams.
But the Pretoria team soon gained the initiative again as forward Jeremy Brockie had an effort ruled out for off-side, before in-form Thabo Mnyamane curled an effort over on the half hour mark.
The last opportunity of the half fell to home defender Onismor Bhasera, but from range he smashed his shot over goal.
The complexion of the game was changed just a minute after the restart when Bonginkosi Ntuli fired Dikwena into the lead.
Matsatsantsa came back looking for an equaliser, but Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Thuso Phala both failed to hit the target.
Letsholonyane missed another late opportunity as Cavin Johnson's side clinched the win which saw them overtaking Ajax Cape Town but Golden Arrows last ditch victory over Orlando Pirates saw them steal eighth place - ahead of Dikwena.
