Ekstein: I must deliver for Amakhosi faithful

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Hendrick Ekstein admits he needs to perform at the level expected of him after unwavering support from Amakhosi fans.

Ekstein is a firm fan favorite among the Chiefs supporters since being promoted to Amakhosi's first-team squad.

His flair and technical ability on the ball is said to remind the fans of past legends that donned the black and gold jersey of the Glamour Boys, and despite many claiming he won't achieve much in football because of his age, he has hit back at those statements.

"The response the fans give me when I have the ball makes me happy because it shows that they love me," he told IOL.

"Since they love me, I must deliver.

"I haven’t done much to be honest with you. I need to work even harder. I want to create and score goals. I think that this is going to be my season. It helps that the coach believes in me.

"For me age doesn’t matter that much," Ekstein continued.

"Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane) arrived here when he was 26 and he became an influential figure."

Ekstein joined the Soweto giants in 2013 at the age of 22 after being scouted in a friendly fixture.

Meanwhile, Ekstein will be hoping he can help his team-mates inflict damage to Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership match.
