Falling Soweto giants as Swallows survival hopes continue to fade

Cape Town - Moroka Swallows' survival hopes took another dent in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League stream, while three teams are still vying for the title heading into the final day.

With Garankuwa United not in action over the weekend, Moroka Swallows had the chance to move out of the drop zone, but that was not the case.

According to the official SAFA website, the Dube Birds suffered a 1-0 loss to title-chasing JDR Stars and now remain in 15th spot, and will have to win next week and hope Garankuwa lose.

Bottom place, Mofolo BET Stars' ABS status still hangs in the balance, as they head to the DC this week for their clash with Leruma United. Although, as things stand, they are relegated.

Moving to the title race, Maccabi dropped points to ensure the race will go down to the final week of fixtures.

Maccabi were held to a 1-1 draw by Alexandra Black Aces but remain on top of the table heading into the final week.

Second place, Orange Vaal Professionals FC cut Maccabi's lead from three points one, after they thumped Alexandra United 6-0 on Saturday.

JDR Stars are still within a chance to lift the league title, after they defeated relegation-threatened Swallows 1-0 to move one point behind Maccabi.

However, Maccabi have their fate in their own hands. Should they secure victory on the final day, they will win the title regardless of other results.
