Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes a lack of experience saw his team surrender the Premiership title to Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this month.
The Clever Boys were within touching distance of Sundowns in the latter stages of the campaign, but the Brazilians pulled away in the last six games to win the championship.
Josephs conceded that Pitso Mosimane's side had a stellar run where they set a new benchmark of 71 points in a season.
"The quality and ambition of the current team is top-notch. Yes, we should have won trophies, but I think it was our mental capacity and the pressure that held us back," Josephs told his club's official website.
"Look, the season is unfortunately over and we have to remain positive and keep on building... Ending second is not an achievement with the quality we have in our squad.
"But we have to give credit where credit is due. Sundowns held out even when their backs were against the wall. That mentality is something we need to bolster, something we need to work on as a team for next season to win the title."
