Majoro: No point to prove at high-flying City

Cape Town - Lehlohonolo Majoro says the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Lebo Manyama and himself have nothing to prove at Cape Town City.

Manyama and Ngoma, who previously had stints at SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates respectively, have been especially crucial to City's title hopes this season and are arguably playing the best football of their careers.

Others such as Majoro (ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates), Tshepo Gumede (ex-Pirates) and Robyn Johannes (ex-Mamelodi Sundowns) have also excelled for Eric Tinkler's team this season.

But Majoro says it's not a case of proving doubters wrong, and says his club's outstanding form is simply down to team spirit.

"Most of the players here have been with big teams and it's just unfortunate that we never got enough chance to express ourselves," he told the Sowetan.

"I'm referring to the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Lebo Manyama, Tshepo Gumede and Robyn Johannes. Now they are given the freedom.

"The mistake that people make is thinking that we are here to prove a point, but that's not the case.

"If you are there [in the dressing room] before the game you can see that this is a united team and that makes us tick," added the 30-year-old .

League leaders City are next in action on Monday when they take on Maritzburg United up in KZN.

Kick off is at 15:00.
