Mobara eager to make an impact

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates centre-back Abbubaker Mobara is determined to make an impact in any given position in the Buccaneers' squad.

Former Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral Mobara often used Mobara in the engine room during his time at the club, and the Cape Town-born is continuing in a defensive midfield role with coach Kjell Jonevret at the helm.

However, he was deployed at centre-back in the goalless league clash against Bloemfontein Celtic two weeks ago.

Mobara's versatility alongside Happy Jele in the heart of defence, is becoming of huge value for the side.

The attack-minded Mobara's first-half header in the 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows in Sunday's Nedbank Cup semi-final encounter, gave Bucs a much needed boost.

"I have been playing mostly as a midfielder for the most part of this season, but when coach (Jonevret) deployed me at centre back position against Celtic I didn't have a problem.

"I'm used to play at centre back as I did play the same position at Ajax (Cape Town), so I feel at ease (at centre back).

"In fact, I'm eager to make an impact in any given position in the team," Mobara exclusively told Vodacom Soccer.

The Buccaneers will face Golden Arrows in the last round of Premiership fixtures for the season at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
