SuperSport win eight-goal thriller in Libreville

Cape Town - SuperSport United made fairly light work of their trip to Gabon with a 5-3 CAF Confederation Cup Group D win over Mounana at the Stade d'Angondje on Tuesday.

Matsatsantsa got off to the perfect start when following a corner, Bradley Grobler's flick reached Grant Kekana at the far post, who fired home from 12-yards out.

Following the early setback, the Gabon club came storming back and SuperSport keeper Reyad Pieterse had to be on top of his game to keep out a couple of efforts from Abdul Atchabao and Guylain Kisombe.

Parity was restored in the 27th minute when Ameka Autchanga snuck through the visiting defence to poke home a low cross.

However, the Pretoria outfit were soon back in front when Thabo Mnyamane scored at the second attempt after his first shot had been saved and Mnyamane ensured a two-goal cushion five minutes before half-time when he latched onto Aubrey Modiba's cross to volley in from 15 yards out.

Mounana came out firing after the break and looked set to pull a goal back when Clayton Daniels was penalised for a 49th-minute handball, but Pieterse did superbly to save Atchabao's spot-kick.

They continued to pepper Pieterse's goal with Franck Guedegbe going close several times, but instead it was Matsatsantsa who scored again when Brockie slotted home from close range after an excellent assist by Fagrie Lakay.

However, Mounana got their way onto the scoresheet again when Hamidou Sinayok netted on the rebound after Pieterse had stopped his penalty kick 10 minutes from time.

Autchanga pounced on a loose ball in the box to reduce the deficit further, but Mnyamane brilliantly set up Brockie deep in added time to sweep home United's fifth.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
