Vilakazi wants domestic silverware with Sundowns

Cape Town - The fuel that will drive Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout is the desire to bring a domestic trophy to the club’s cabinet, something that hasn’t happened in over a year.

The last two trophies that entered the Brazilians’ cabinet were continental titles, the CAF Champions League last year and the CAF Super Cup earlier this year.

The last title Sundowns won in the country was the 2015/16 Absa Premiership while also claiming the Telkom Knockout in 2015.

Sibusiso Vilakazi hadn’t joined the team then which is why he is looking forward to lift his first domestic trophy with the Brazilians.

The African champions will visit Chippa United in the last 16 of the Telkom Knockout to be played on the weekend of 26-29 October.

"It’s been a while since we tasted glory, in the form of a trophy on the domestic league," Vilakazi said on the club's official website.

"We will try by all means to get this one for the team, for ourselves and for the supporters. But with that said, we aren’t looking forward too much.

"We will take it one game at a time. First there is Chippa that we have to get past and then we will see from there.

"Things didn’t go our way in the MTN8. This is an opportunity to make up for that by dusting ourselves.

"It won’t be easy because Chippa United are also looking at this as an opportunity for silverware. It was disappointing not to get something last season."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
