Cape Town - Mamelodi
Sundowns play-maker Themba Zwane is disappointed the Brazilians were
unable to defend their Premiership title during a grueling domestic
campaign.
Bidvest Wits were crowned Absa Premiership champions on Wednesday with one game to spare, after defeating Polokwane City 2-0, and Downs being held to a 2-2 draw by Fadlu Davids’ Maritzburg United.
Now Zwane has revealed that he’s gutted by his team’s failure to retain their title and handing the Clever Boys their maiden Premiership crown after a campaign where the Champions of Africa fought for multiple honours, but effectively ran out of steam during the final run-in.
“Personally, I feel bad and I’m sure it is the same thing with my teammates. Our mission was to defend our title, but things didn’t go our way. But we can’t look down forever,” he told SowetanLIVE.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder went on to congratulate the Students on a season well fought, saying they fully deserved the honours but warned Masandawana will hunt them down next season.
“Wits have done well for themselves and I want to congratulate them. They really worked hard and gave us a tough time,” Zwane said. “We will bounce back for sure."
