Cilic splits with coach Ivanisevic

Paris - Former US Open champion Marin Cilic on Thursday said he and coach Goran Ivanisevic had split despite his compatriot having guided him to his only Grand Slam title.

Former Wimbledon champion Ivanisevic teamed up with Cilic in 2013 before the pair celebrated the US Open title in 2014.

"I wanted to share these news with you. Unfortunately, I am no longer working with my coach Goran Ivanisevic," Cilic wrote on his website.

"We have started to work together in September 2013 and we had a lot of success during that period, especially winning the US Open in 2014.

"It was huge privilege to work with Goran, I enjoyed our work all this time and Goran helped me to reach many goals.

"Unfortunately, the road we were sharing on this journey is separating and I wish only the best for Goran in the future."

The two Croats last worked together at Wimbledon where Cilic surrendered a two-sets lead to lose 6-7 (4/7), 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (11/9), 6-3 in the semi-finals to Roger Federer.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
