It was just a bridge too far for Anderson.

He fought gamely but in the end just made too many unforced errors - 40 compared to Nadal's 11.

Anderson also won only 16 out of 34 net points (47%), while Nadal was a perfect 16 from 16 at the net.

Anderson should however hold his head high. He lost to one of the game's greats!

Nadal, with 16 majors, is now just three behind Roger Federer's record of 19.
