Dolphins downed by Knights in Kimberley

Cape Town - The Dolphins suffered a 58 run defeat to the Knights in a shortened One Day Cup clash in Kimberley on Sunday.

Following a lengthy delay due to a wet outfield the match was restricted to 25 overs a side and after being asked to bat first the hosts amassed 208 for five.

Patrick Kruger proved to be the most devastating, scoring 79 off 54 balls while Ryan McLaren chipped in with 38.

Senuran Muthusamy picked up two wickets for the Dolphins while Eathan Bosch, Keshav Maharaj and Okuhle Cele picked up one scalp each.

In reply there were only two reasonable contributions for the Dolphins. Sarel Erwee scored 38 at the top of the order while Khaya Zondo made 33.

Erwee's 38 came off 31 deliveries with two fours and two sixes.

Zondo took just 23 balls for his 33 with two fours and two sixes as well.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins they lacked that one significant partnership that would have got them close to the Knights.

Shadley van Schalkwyk was the best bowler for the hosts as he picked up five wickets for 25 runs.

The Dolphins continue their One Day Cup run-in with a clash with the Warriors in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

With two matches left in the round robin phase the Dolphins currently sit in third spot tied on points with the Cape Cobras.

The log is far more jammed than it was before Friday's matches and all six sides are in the running for a semi-final spot.
