Amla passes Biff on SA all-time run scorers list

Cape Town - In what may prove to be his final Test for the Proteas, Hashim Amla passed former national skipper Graeme Smith to move into second place in the list of all-time SA run scorers.

Amla, who will turn 36 on March 31, had a forgettable recent two-Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring 51 runs in four innings' at an average of 12.75.

But those runs were enough to see the right-hander move to 9 282 in his 124 Tests, ahead of Smith who retired on 9 253 back in 2014.

Amla, who boasts the only triple century recorded by a South African (311* v England at The Oval in 2012) has 28 tons on his CV along with 41 half-centuries, but has seen his average slip to 46.64 in recent times.

Jacques Kallis, who hung up his spikes in 2013, remains way out in front with 13 206.

The next best active Proteas Test player is current captain Faf du Plessis in 12th spot with 3 608.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
