Former Proteas batsman lands top schools coaching job

Cape Town - Former Proteas wicketkeeper/batsman Morne van Wyk will begin his coaching career by taking the reins at a well-known Pietermaritzburg high school St. Charles College.

The 40-year-old effectively announced his retirement from professional cricket at the end of the 2018/19 domestic season, finishing his career with the Dolphins.

St. Charles represented the Dolphins in this year's edition of the Cricket South Africa's school's franchise T20 tournament.

"It's going to be difficult to continue playing, because my responsibility is now towards the school," Van Wyk was quoted as saying on Netwerk24.

Van Wyk played in 17 ODIs and eight T20Is for the Proteas between 2003 and 2015.

His finest contribution was a knock of 114* in a T20 clash against the West Indies in Durban in 2015.

With Van Wyk no longer at the Dolphins, the Durban franchise has secured the services of Protea-capped wicketkeeper Mangaliso Mosehle for next season.
