Former Proteas' wicketkeeper breaks new ground in England

Cape Town - Former Proteas wicketkeeper Dane Vilas carded a massive double century while on County Championship duty for Lancashire on Monday.

The 34-year-old, who played six Tests for South Africa in 2015 and 2016, smashed 266 off 240 balls in his side's first innings against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay.

Batting at No 6, Vilas hit 35 fours and 6 sixes in a stay at the crease that lasted a little over five hours.

It is Vilas' highest ever score in first-class cricket, surpassing his previous best of 244

When play gets underway on day three, Lancashire will start with a first-innings lead of 287 with one wicket remaining, and that is largely down to their captain Vilas.

There was more South African success in the form of Proteas all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, meanwhile, who hit 111 (156) for Northamptonshire against Worcestershire.
