Kallis: I would've played differently

Cape Town - Former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis admits that he would've played the game differently after having coached at international level at the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kallis, who retired from international cricket in 2014, played 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is for South Africa.

Kallis is arguably known as the greatest cricketer South Africa has ever produced - scoring 13 289 runs and taking 292 wickets in Test cricket and making 11 579 runs and taken 273 wickets in ODI.

The 42-year-old is currently the head coach of the IPL side, the Kolkata Knight Riders.

"I've got two more years of the IPL, I really enjoy and it's nice giving back and seeing the game in a different point of view," Kallis said on the Dan Nicholl Show on SuperSport on Wednesday evening.

"The interesting part is I'll play the game slightly different now that I've coached, because you see things different and I would've done things differently.

"Not that I have any regrets. It's amazing how much you learn from your own game when you're coaching someone else."

The Kolkata Knight Riders made the playoffs at this year's IPL, but lost in the second qualifier match to the Sunrisers Hyderabad to finish in third-place.

Kallis is hopeful that he will lift up the silverware as head coach during the next two years at the franchise.

"It's unbelievable. We are really fortunate we are in a great franchise like the Kolkata Knight Riders, they look after me unbelievably well," said Kallis.

"The owners give me free reign to run the side how I want. We have a great crowd where the people come and support us and great players in the side... Hopefully we'll grow from strength to strength. Hopefully Jacques can win as a coach as well."
