As it happened: Proteas fall to heartbreaking Black Caps loss
THAT'S A WRAP!
Thank for joining Sport24 for coverage of the Proteas loss (cries) to New Zealand.
However, it's not over!
There will TONS of reaction from Birmingham and we need answers so Sport24's Lloyd Burnard will get the latest from SA's loss.
Tomorrow's match: Bangladesh v Australia (11:30 SA time)
Proteas next match: Sunday v Pakistan (11:30 SA time)
INNINGS IN BRIEF:
New Zealand win by 4 wickets.
Rassie van der Dussen starred with the bat for the Proteas as scored 245/6 after losing the toss. Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the NZ bowlers, ending on 3/59.
Kane Williamson led his team to a thrilling victory as he smashed an unbeaten 106 off 138 balls. Chris Morris was the best South African bowler on the day as he ended on 3/49.
It would be so wrong for anyone to pile into @andileluck19 over today. A promising young player who had been contributing well for some time had an off-day. That's all. Proteas are collectively responsible for this wretched tournament by them.— Rob Houwing (@RobHouwing) June 19, 2019
NEW ZEALAND UNBEATEN
With this win, New Zealand go on top of the table with 9 points after 4 wins in 5 games and one no result.
South Africa remain 8th on 3 points after 1 win in 6 games and one no result.
WILLIAMSON ON 100 AND WIN:
"It wasn't easy to play a knock like that. Trying to get across the line, we've played on a variety of surfaces. You look at the other side of the country and they score 350 but that's not been us. But yeah, it's not looking too far ahead and trying to achieve things aren't necessary. But we know there are a number of tough games coming up"
"The performances haven't been there. Individually we should have put on performances that could have driven the team home. But now we have to just try out best to compete again."
FAF DU PLESSIS AFTER THE MATCH:
"We did everything we could. WE threw ourselves a round. The energy was unbelievable. Sure, there was sometimes that we dropped intensity. But Kane took it away from us."
I'm really starting to believe it's all set up for Bafana to rescue us ???????— Julia Stuart (@JuliaStuart_SA) June 19, 2019

MAN OF THE MATCH:
Kane Williamson for his 106 off 138 balls.
#CWC19 Kane Williamson. Just beautiful. What an innings, what a player and what a skipper?? Heartbroken but we can’t not appreciate that.— Carl Lewis (@Carl_LewisZA) June 19, 2019
South Africa are knocked out of the 2019 Cricket World Cup!
Williamson leads his side to victory as New Zealand win by 4 wickets!
Williamson ends on 103*
And that's the match! Under pressure, Williamson pulls a full and meaty Phehlukwayo delivery for a maximum.
The six also brings up his 100!
SCORES ARE LEVEL!
