The Proteas are on their way back home after their ODI series against India was postponed amid the mounting anxiety over the coronavirus pandemic.

The first of three matches in Dharamsala last Thursday was washed out without a ball being bowled.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) then called off the two remaining ODIs as the virus claimed its first victim in India.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that the three-match ODI series will be rescheduled at a later date.

Prior to boarding their flight, the Proteas were scanned at their hotel in Kolkata and again at the airport.

Proteas batsman Faf du Plessis and fast bowler Anrich Nortje were two of the players seen wearing face masks.

The team departed Kolkata on Monday morning and will connect to South Africa via Dubai.

Cape Town-based players and management staff are expected to fly directly to the Mother City from Dubai, while the rest of the team will fly to Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, the BCCI postponed the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 29 March until 15 April "as a precautionary measure" over the coronavirus.
